New Jersey Center for Fertility and Reproductive Medicine Video Website

The review of current information on miscarriages that is presented on this website is sponsored by The New Jersey Center for Fertility and Reproductive Medicine and is written by Dr. Eric Daiter.

Miscarriages occur much more frequently than is generally perceived, partially since couples are generally reluctant to discuss these very upsetting events. Nearly 20% of all human pregnancies, and up to 50% of pregnancies when a woman is 40-45 years old, are spontaneously lost as a miscarriage. The incidence rate for miscarriage is related to a woman’s prior miscarriage history and the presence of known causes for recurrent pregnancy loss.

A miscarriage is often unpredicted and is usually devastating for a couple. The sense of loss following a miscarriage is similar to losing a body part or a member of the family. The literature describing the grieving process is scanty but several important potentially beneficial books are available for those interested.

Dr. Eric Daiter and The New Jersey Center for Fertility and Reproductive Medicine encourage the viewer to explore the contents of this site, which reviews the incidence rates for miscarriage following a single or following different numbers of multiple losses. Dr. Daiter reviews known causes for recurrent miscarriages and their possible treatments in detail. The clinical evaluation for recurrent pregnancy loss that is employed at the New Jersey Center for Fertility and Reproductive Medicine is also presented.

The information within these tutorials is intended to be solely educational. The knowledge and competence that the viewer may expect to develop within the complex medical field of infertility is not a substitute for the medical education that physicians obtain during their medical curriculum and training.

With this in mind, many couples are able to effectively use the knowledge that they gain about human reproduction to guide them through the difficult (and often expensive) process of obtaining medical (infertility) care.
