Uterine Septum 1 View 3
Hysteroscopy alone cannot determine whether the wedge shaped defect within the uterine cavity represents a uterine septum or a bicornuate uterus. On laparoscopy, a smooth outer contour of the uterus (in this case) identifies the defect as a septum. Alternatively, presence of a central indentation in the outer uterine contour (a “heart shaped” uterus) can be identified on laparoscopy and would have identified the defect as part of a bicornuate uterus.
