Uterine Septum 3 View 2
Photograph of the hysteroscopic view of a uterine cavity with a uterine septum that has been transected with a resectoscope using electrocautery. The tissue was transected along the course from the right tubal ostium (to the left of the field of view) to the left tubal ostium (not seen here). The transected tissue has a bright white color characteristic of tissue with a very poor blood supply (a uterine septum is predominantly avascular tissue that was incompletely resorbed embryologically) and the transected tissue pulls apart spontaneously (vertically) to “open up” the cavity. These septums are most strongly associated with recurrent pregnancy loss. | |||||||||||||
